THE MET GALA 2018: BEST AND WORST.

Fashion, FCP

Welcome back to my blog!  Today I thought I would share with my top hits and misses from the Met Gala 2018. This years theme was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’, and as always there was a combination of people who nailed the theme, and those who, well didn’t even try to. I am sure you have your favourites from the night, so let me know in the comments! Below I have included images to show you my favourite & least favourite looks, I hope you enjoy!

MISSES:

Overall, my favourite look from the night would have to be Rihanna; she took the theme to the next level! Others I loved would have to be Blake Lively who looked AMAZING in her dress, as well as Chadwick Boseman who definitely was best dressed man for me. I did genuinely love all of the looks from the ‘HITS’ slideshow…they all killed it. For the ‘MISSES’ however, I have to say I am disappointed in what Kendall Jenner wore; a jumpsuit, really? The misses are really a mix of those who didn’t make an effort with the theme, and those who tried a little too hard…and it didn’t pay off (*cough* Sarah Jessica Parker*cough*). But these are just my own personal opinions of the looks form the night. I think there were so many amazing ones this year, I was blown away by a few! The level of craftsmanship that must have gone into so many of the outfits is truly incredible. My hat goes off to the designers & makers of the garments. Not to mention the makeup artists / hairstylists. My favourite face of the night has to go to Kim; you can’t deny she looked stunning.

That’s a wrap for this years Met Ball! I am already excited to see next years!

NYC MINI MAKEUP HAUL.

beauty, FCP, Makeup

Welcome back to my blog! As the title suggests, tonight’s post (two in one day, check me out!) is going to be a Haul of the makeup products I purchased whilst I was in NYC. I must have visited about five different Sephora’s during my time there; I needed to get my fix before heading home as we don’t have them in the UK (heart breaking, I know). However, I didn’t go crazy and buy too much, just a few products that were on my wish list! I also visited a few CVS stores, and picked up something that I have been wanting to try for a while now! The one product I didn’t manage to get my hands on whilst I was in the US was the Tarte Shape Tape concealer 😦 boooo. I found out that it is sold exclusively at Ulta, but unfortunately I didn’t manage to get to an Ulta store during my short stay. It is still on my wish list though… one day! If you would like to find out what products I did manage to get my hands on whilst I was in New York, then please keep on reading.FullSizeRender (89)

  1. Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick in the shade ‘Stripped’: Did I need another nude coloured liquid lipstick? No. Did I want one? Yes. I was uming and awing over whether or not to buy this product; I really wanted to try an ABH liquid lip after hearing & seeing so much about them, but it wasn’t a necessity to my makeup collection considering how many similar shades I already own from previous brands. After picking it up and putting it back down in one Sephora store, I kept thinking ‘I wish I had bought it’ afterwards… that’s when you know you need something! The final Sephora we visited on the last day I decided to buy it; they only had one left in the colour I wanted (it must of been a sign)! ‘Stripped’ is the perfect nude shade that I know I will get my wear out of, and I can’t wait to try it out properly! ( $20 plus tax).IMG_3411
  2. Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb: When I visited the first Sephora I realised that they stocked Fenty Beauty, and I knew that I HAD to purchase something! I had heard good things about the foundation, but because I have normal-dry skin, I didn’t think it would be the best fit for me, plus I was on a time limit & so, didn’t want to spend ages getting shade matched etc. I then thought about getting one of the highlighters, but none of them grabbed my attention enough, apart from the gold one, but I definitely don’t think I could pull that one off! I decided instead to get the lipgloss! I had watched reviews & read about the product; it is meant to be the perfect lipgloss for all skin tones. Everyone in the video reviews seemed to love it, and I have gotten into wearing lipgloss much more recently, so thought I would give it a go! It is a subtle dark nude shade, that I will look amazing over so many of my other lip products! Not to mention the packaging is absolutely killer. I am obsessed! So glad I finally own a Fenty Beauty product! ($16 plus tax)IMG_3413
  3. Kat Von D liquid lipstick in the shade ‘Nahz Fur Atoo’: This product, which is a dark red/crimson coloured liquid lipstick, I bought as a gift for my eldest sister. She has been wanting a deep red coloured lip product from Jeffree Star Cosmetics called ‘Unicorn Blood’, but it recently went out of stock before she could get her hands on it. So, whilst I was in Sephora I decided to pick her a similar colour up for her… I hope she likes it! It is quite a vampy shade, something that suits my sister much more than me! ($20 plus tax)IMG_3410.JPG
  4. Nars Creamy Radiant concealer in the shade ‘Vanilla’: This product was a till temptation… you know when your queuing up to pay, or at the till and you’re surrounded by products that you probably don’t need, but somehow they make you think you need them. They got me! I have previously owned this concealer (about a year ago), and I did love it! I just used it up wayyy too fast. This version is actually a mini; I am a complete sucker for mini versions of products! I find them too cute. I thought that this way I won’t use it up as quickly as I don’t have a lot of product in the first place, so my plan is to only use it on special occasions. Also, because I couldn’t get my hands on the Tarte concealer, I thought that this one was a good substitute that I already know I love! ( $13 plus tax)IMG_3412
  5. Loreal Infallible Pro Glow foundation in the shade ‘202’: I have heard so many amazing reviews about this product! I had completely forget that CVS even did makeup when we went in… it was a very happy surprise when we realised! I was browsing all the drug store brands trying to remember what products YouTubers loved, when I found the foundation! I picked it up in the second lightest shade they had, which I hope will be a good match (they didn’t have any testers :() I can’t wait to try it out; fingers crossed I love it! ( about $14)IMG_3414

I hope you enjoyed this makeup themed post! I am already having Sephora withdrawals… I need to go back ASAP!

NIGHT TIME BEAUTY ROUTINE.

beauty, FCP

Welcome back to my blog! For today’s post I thought I would do a beauty related piece; it’s been a hot minute! So, if you want to know my (very simple) night time routine, then please keep on reading!

Step One:

The first step I take when getting ready for bed is to remove my makeup; my favourite step! There is no feeling like removing a full face of makeup after a long day. To remove my eye makeup I use the Nivea ‘Daily Essentials Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover’; a mouthful, but it is the BEST one I have found. I apply some to a cotton pad and simply wipe it over my eye and it takes off everything! Mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow and even ABH Dipbrow Pomade which is waterproof! Then, I use the Garnier ‘Micellar Cleansing Water’, to remove my face makeup, again it is the best one I’ve used! A few cotton pads later and my face is makeup free! As a last step I use a makeup wipe (Nivea ‘Pure and Natural Cleansing Wipes’) to ensure my face is fully clean and fresh! Then onto the next step.

Step Two:

The next step is skincare; my routine is very basic! I use the Baby Dove ‘Sensitive Moisturizer’ ( as I have very sensitive skin, as sensitive as a babies LOL), and apply a small amount all over my face, its gentle but does the job! Then, I take a good old trusty product ( also for babies)… Sudocrem! I dab a little amount onto any blemishes or red areas I might have. I can’t remember where I first heard this trick from, but I do think it really works to reduce redness and dry up blemishes! Give it a try! Plus it is a very affordable skin care product. The last and most important step I take in my night time routine is to apply a generous amount of Vaseline to my lips. The only step I will NEVER miss. My lips get awfully dry if I don’t use lip balm everyday, so I always make sure, no matter how tired I am, that I apply Vaseline!

untitled (49)untitled (46)untitled (47)

And there it is! My very simple and affordable night time routine! I hope you enjoyed it and I will be back soon with another post! I am going to try & include more makeup/beauty related posts in the near future, so can your eyes peeled!

WHY I HATE PERFUME ADS.

beauty, Fashion, FCP

Welcome back to my blog! For today’s post I thought I would share with you my dislike for perfume advertisements in a hope that some of you reading also feel the same way. I’ll keep it short, but maybe not so sweet. I have a few reasons for my hate; number 1… the fact that the don’t make sense. Why is Julia Roberts walking through a party turning walls into diamonds? How is that selling the Lancôme perfume? It’s not. I understand  that perfume companies have to sell their product via celeb endorsement and an eye catching story line because we don’t have ‘smellavision’, but to me, they have nothing to do with perfume. I spend half my time wondering what the advert is persuading me to buy, and by the end of the ad, I would never of guessed that it would be perfume. Also, the cliché adverts annoy me; they play heavily on stereotypes of a couple, mainly the woman falling for the man because of his scent, or lots of women falling the man. Boring! So overdone… Do men really believe that will happen in real life? Another reason I hate perfume ads is the fact that they are so extravagant, for example the Miss Dior ad featuring Natalie Portman… it must have cost millions to make the advertisement. The ad sees the actress in many different settings, such as a beach, a lavish house and even Paris. Yet I still didn’t fully understand the message of the ad, or why it would persuade me to buy the perfume; mostly I just thought about how OTT it was. But, do these ads work? They must do! Not for me personally, but I can guarantee that for some people, the eccentric and confusing ads must be persuasive enough for them to buy the perfume, or at least go into Boots to smell it!

Overall, I just dislike the over the top and over done perfume ads that have nothing to do with perfume! My face is a constant eye roll emoji when they come on TV LOL. Let me know what you think of them!

THE NEW FACES OF BEAUTY.

beauty, Makeup

Over the past few years the makeup industry has seen a dramatic growth in popularity. However, the large number of products now available to us is not the only thing that has grown, as the audience of which the products appeal to has also grown. Recently, the target market of the makeup industry has evidently vastly expanded, to a point where in fact there may no longer be a specific audience that makeup brands are aimed at. Popular and well-known names in the industry e.g. such as Mac, NYX and Maybelline are now using male makeup artists as their brand/campaign promoters, with many other brands such as Spectrum planning to do the same. So, with the great increase of male beauty gurus on YouTube, Instagram & now, in beauty campaigns, in addition to transgender stars, has the makeup industry truly been transformed? Are there now ‘new faces’ of beauty? I have researched both luxury and drug-store makeup brands to find out.

The first makeup campaign I looked at was Jeffree Star Cosmetics’ Christmas collection, which features the creator of the brand, Jeffree Star himself, as well as his friend & fellow YouTuber Nikita Dragun, who is a transgender woman. The former singer Jeffree Star has seen his brand boom over the past year and a half, particularly his Velour Liquid Lipsticks, which arguably started off one of the biggest makeup trends of 2016. In addition to his makeup collections popularity, he also has a YouTube following of over 3.5 million, highlighting what an influential role he has in the growing beauty community. His channel consists of makeup tutorials, reviews and ‘get ready with me’ videos, which also feature some of his friends that are also in the industry, such as MannyMUA, another male beauty guru, and Nikita Dragun. Nikita is very open on her Youtube channel about her transitional journey, sharing her own personal experiences throughout the process, including her operations etc. Assessing the images (below), the fact that Jeffree, Nikita and a male model are featured within the campaign suggests a new ideal that makeup is truly for anyone. Jeffree, through promotion of himself, his products, and his friends, has now developed a brand that caters for everyone, and that makeup has no gender. It is also clear, from his vast social media following, that millions of makeup enthusiasts agree with him. Related image

Maybelline, a world-wide popular drugstore brand, has also recently brought out a new campaign advertising their latest mascara, which features male beauty guru ‘MannyMUA’. Manny is another YouTube phenomenon, who has built up his subscribers to an impressive 2.2 million and growing. His feature highlights that drugstore brands are also willing to take risks in relation to promotion of their products by using non-traditional ambassadors such as male makeup artists. Additionally, NYX, another drugstore brand has also featured a male promotor; makeup guru Patrick Star within their campaigns that can be seen in their stores/branches. This consequently reinforces that men may be the new faces of beauty.Image result for manny mua maybelline

But, are there any campaigns using non-makeup artist males? I searched for a beauty advertisement that used more traditional non-famous male models for the promotion of makeup, and although they certainly seem less popular amongst makeup brands, I did find one from Anastasia Beverly Hills. This add features a male model with simplistic makeup, used mainly for cover up (e.g. foundation and concealer) rather than the intense makeup looks that can be seen in the previous campaigns. However, this add does prove that the makeup industry has expanded even more than first thought; to not only male makeup professionals, but also the average man in society too. Thus, this shows that as an industry, that includes both luxury and drugstore brands, makeup is constantly pushing boundaries and subverting stereotypes.Image result for anastasia beverly hills men

So, can it be concluded that men are indeed the new faces of beauty? I’ll leave that decision up to you. But, it is clear that there has been a clear shift in acceptance, as well as a shunning of stereotypes in the makeup industry that has been a long time coming. I can’t wait to see what one of the world’s fasting growing industries has to offer us next.

Let me know your opinion in the comments!

Welcome back.

FCP

Welcome back to my blog… long time no see! Over the past few months I have been MIA from ‘FaceandFashion’ for a number of reasons; but mainly due to the lack of inspiration/personal motivation I had been feeling towards it/blogging. This, is something that I never wanted to happen. The first half of my blogging year I truly loved writing, posting, taking pictures, the whole concept of being a blogger and was dedicated to it. However, as the months passed I couldn’t shake the feeling that my blog was too ‘amateur’ for my liking, and with little knowledge/resources to help change this, I began to feel deflated before even really taking off. So, with this negative mind set, along with some personal set backs, my blog came to a dwindling halt. Which again, I find rather saddening / disappointing.

However… I am back! And here’s why…

Nearly two weeks ago now (it feels like 2 years ago!) I moved to university to study Fashion Communication and Promotion (it’s a mouthful I know).  I am planning on posting another blog post dedicated solely to explain what the course actually is, why I chose it etc. but for now I wanted to explain why by doing the course, it means I have started up ‘FaceandFashion’ again.

On the course, right from day one, it is strongly suggested that we, as FCP students, create a blog that we can use throughout the three years of study. Constantly updating it with each seminar we have, project we do, trip we go on, and finally, by the end of the course, our blog should be able to communicate to not only the lecturers, but potential employers, who we are as a brand. That is why I have decided to re-launch my blog now as I feel that with the right guidance, support and resources, not to mention the constant inspiration, I feel like my blog will finally be in the place I want it to be… and I couldn’t be more excited about that! As you may or may not have noticed, my blog has already changed slightly (title/colour scheme), and will probably continue to be updated throughout my time on the FCP course. However, I have made the decision to keep all my old posts prior to this one; not only will they help to show growth as I move through the course, but also I am still very proud of them!

With all that said, I shall be back soon, and shall also be uploading blog posts on a regular basis (I promise!) . These may include posts on my course,  but I will also still blog about fashion and makeup related content, as that is what I am most passionate about, and also, where it all began!. I am very excited about the future of this blog… ‘FaceandFashion’ is well and truly back!

Everyday makeup.

Makeup

Welcome back to my blog! I hope everyone is having a great weekend! Today, I thought I would share with you my ‘go-to’ makeup look that I opt for on a daily basis. It is simple and quick to achieve, which is great for days where I am running late, but still want to look put together (basically everyday!). All product details will be listed below along with some pictures of this natural and glowing look! So, if you want to find out more, then please keep on reading!

IMG_6486

IMG_6485

Face: For the face I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, whilst still having some coverage, colour and of course, a glow.

  • LA Girl Pro Conceal – shade Green.
  • Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – shade 1.
  • Rimmel London Stay Matte Powder – shade Transparent.
  • Kat Von D Shade and Light Palette – shades Subconscious and Shadowplay.
  • Bourjois Paris Bronzing Powder – shade 51.
  • Benefit Rockateur Blusher.
  • Mac Extra Dimension Skin Finish – shade Double Gleam.

Eyes: For the eyes I opted for a shimmery but natural look that would match perfectly with the dewiness of the skin, with minimal use of shadows in order to save time. I also attempted to make the brows look more natural rather than structured. I did this by using feathery strokes rather than sharp/ harsh ones, as well as making them thicker & lighter.  I love the way they turned out!

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade – shade Ash Brown.
  • Freedom Pro Conceal & Correct Palette – lightest shade for under the brows.
  • Mac Paint Pot – shade Soft Ochre.
  • Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette – shade Bitter Start and Substitute for Love.
  • Loreal Paris individual eyeshadow – shade Wild Gold.
  • Benefit Roller Lash Mascara.
  • Maybelline Brow Drama – shade Medium Brown.
  • Mac Extra Dimension Skin Finish – Double Gleam ( for the inner eye corners).

Lips: For ease I chose to apply some of my Rosy Lips Vaseline; it provides a subtle hint of colour, whilst also moisturising the lips! Not to mention it can be easily reapplied throughout the day.

To finish, as always, I used a few sprays of my Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, to make sure that my makeup stays on throughout the whole day!

So, that completes my natural everyday makeup look! I hope you enjoyed this beauty themed post! More to come soon.

FAVOURITE PRODUCT OF THE MONTH-FEBRUARY EDITION.

Makeup

Welcome back to my blog! I hope everyone has been doing well! Long time no post… recently I have been feeling a little uninspired and unmotivated, a feeling I hope some of you might be able to relate to. Nonetheless, in a bid to shake this unwanted feeling off, I am back today with a very belated ‘favourite product’ post for the month of February. So, if you would like to find out what item of makeup I have chosen this time, then please keep on reading!

Throughout the month of February there was one product in particular that I constantly reached for, and so it only made sense to choose it… my Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in the shade ‘Leo’. Whether it was in the day or at night, this liquid lip was my go to.

I love the colour; I would describe it as… well the word ‘rust’ springs to mind, although that doesn’t make it sound very appealing! The product description on the brand’s website describes it as a ‘ true matte honey brown’, in case my efforts didn’t do the colour justice 😉 But I have also left some pictures of the product at the end of post as always, so you can see what the colour looks like both on the lips and a swatch on the hand for comparison. The colour matches so many eye looks, my personal favourite to wear it with is a dark red/ orange eye, which I use my Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette to achieve, as I think the colours compliment each other very well. Moreover,  believe it is a great ‘in-between’ shade that everyone can wear; it is still in the nude colour spectrum, so is wearable for day-to-day ( like I wore in the picture, with minimal eye makeup), but because of the darkness of the shade, it can be worn with a more dramatic look, perfect for nights out, and also it isn’t too dark for those who might not be confident enough to rock a statement lip!

The product itself, like all others in the range, lasts a long time, which is why I feel I can wear it out to dinner or drinks and not worry about it smudging or coming off… you can’t say that about many dark lipstick shades! The ‘matteness’ of the product is definitely another bonus, as well as the fact that it dries down from wet to matte very quickly, good for applying makeup in a hurry or on the go!

Overall, I just love ( guessed I love it by now, huh?) the versatility of this liquid lip, and I really am surprised that this shade doesn’t get more recognition! I know I am going to continue wearing throughout the next months; definitely a product that can worn all year round no matter the season! IMG_6457

I hope you enjoyed this short post, and I am looking forward to sharing my March edition with you soon.

Morphe 35O Makeup Tutorial.

Makeup

Welcome back to my blog! I hope everyone is doing well! In the past two weeks, as you may have noticed, I have been MIA from my blog; I have been very busy going here, there & everywhere with University Interviews! But, I am back today with a makeup tutorial using my Morphe 35O palette that I featured on my blog just before Christmas! I have included step-by-step instructions as well as pictures, which I hope help you if you want to recreate the look below. So, if you would like to learn how I created the eye look that I have been loving lately, then please keep on reading! fullsizerender-36

  1. The first step I take when creating any eye look is to prime the eye using Mac’s Paint Pot in the shade Soft Ochre; this cancels out any discolouration, giving the lid one solid & neutral colour. I then set the lid using the lightest colour of the Morphe palette, which is going to make blending the shadows out in the next step a lot easier.
  2. Next, I take a fluffy blending brush to start applying the transitional shades into the crease. For this, I use the two warm toned light brown shades highlighted below, and keep blending and building up the colour until I am happy with how it looks. fullsizerender-37
  3. I then begin to deepen the crease using the dark orange shade in the palette; this helps to ensure that the shadows all blend seamlessly together, whilst also intensifying the crease’s colour ready for the next step. After this, I then add the darker shades to the eyelid. For this, I mix the two red/orange shades (my favourite colours from this Morphe palette!), and pack them onto the outer corner of the eyelid. I again, keep blending and swapping brushes until I feel the colours transition into each other, whilst trying to keep the centre of the lid as neutral as possible.fullsizerender-38
  4. After this, I take the gold shimmery shadow on a flat brush and apply it to the centre of the lid in the space that has been left shadow free. I repeat this until there is a good coverage of shimmer, making sure it blends into the red/orange colours on the outer corner (it’s all about the blending!). On the inner half of the lid I then use my gold glitter liquid liner, which is actually from Pound Land! This liner is jam packed with flecks of gold glitter, and has surprisingly good coverage (although the pictures aren’t doing it justice 😦 I do recommend trying it out!). I have been loving doing this step recently as I think it adds a lot to the look, and that the gold compliments the warm tones very well. fullsizerender-39
  5. I then do my face makeup, including foundation, contour and highlight; which I also apply (generously) to the inner corner of my eye and underneath the brow bone. For this particular look I chose the Revolution Makeup highlight in the shade ‘Golden Lights’ as I think the gold tones matched the eye look perfectly! (for more information on this highlight then check out my last blog post). I then use a mixture of all the orange/red shades to apply underneath the eye to balance out the lid shadows. This is a step I definitely never miss and think it makes a real difference!
  6. To finish the eye look off, I take my black liquid liner (which works best over glitter) and create a wing on the top lash line. Finally, I apply a coat of my favourite mascara to both the top and bottom lashes, making sure to curl them first before I do so! This last step completes my Morphe 35O tutorial!

I hope you enjoyed this makeup themed post, be sure to let me know if you try it out for yourself! I have lots of new posts planned for the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled! P.S the lipstick I am wearing is Jeffree Star’s Velour Liquid Lipstick in the shade ‘Celebrity Skin’.
